Ghana’s rising forward Jerry Afriyie sealed a season-long loan move to Belgian Pro League newcomers RAAL La Louviere from Saudi outfit Al-Qadsiah, and subsequently made his debut on Sunday as they drew 0-0 with Union Saint-Gilloise.
Exclusively speaking to Footy-Africa in an interview, Afriyie expressed his excitement at the new opportunity.
“I see this move as a big step in my journey,” he noted, talking exclusively to Footy-Africa. “Belgium has produced so many top talents, and I want to test myself in an environment where the competition is intense. For me, it’s about growth, discipline, and proving that I can make an impact at the highest level.”
The Black Stars prospect also reflected on the responsibility of carrying Ghana’s flag in Europe.
“Every time I step onto the pitch, I remember where I come from. Playing for La Louvière is not just about me, it’s about showing that young Ghanaian players can adapt, fight, and thrive anywhere. I’m ready to give everything to help the team succeed and, at the same time, keep developing as a striker,” he added.
The 18-year-old attacker, widely regarded as one of the brightest products of Ghana’s youth system, joined the Belgian side after catching the eye during a spell at Spanish club CD Lugo last season.
La Louvière, gearing up for their maiden campaign in the top division, see the teenager as a potential spearhead in their attacking line.

Afriyie first drew attention in 2024 with standout performances for Ghana’s U-20 side, the Black Satellites, before earning a call-up to the senior national team. His blend of pace, close control, and sharp finishing has since marked him as one to watch in Ghana’s next generation.
