Ghanaian international and winger Kwame Poku is set to join English Championship outfit Birmingham City FC after exiting League One side Peterborough United, Footy-Africa sources have exclusively learned.
The 23-year-old is set to become a free agent on June 30, when his contract with Peterborough officially comes to an end. With the club announcing last month that the player will leave, several teams have since expressed interest in securing his signature ahead of the fast-approaching transfer window.
And Birmingham have made their intentions formal, making contact with the playerโs representatives, Leaders. An exclusive source at the agency confirmed the approach but indicated that they are still weighing options elsewhere before a final decision is made.
โThere are talks with Birmingham over Poku, but no decision has been made at the moment. We still donโt know where he will play next, as various interested parties are expected to make approaches. Then, a decision will be made from a clear point of view. Even then, itโs Birmingham that has so far shown serious intent for a deal,โ the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.
In January, Poku was linked with moves to Birmingham, Burnley, and Sunderland, but nothing materialized, and he remained at Peterborough, aiming to leave as a free agent. This season, the winger played 31 matches across League One, the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and EFL Trophy, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists.
Overall, since joining Peterborough in the 2021/22 campaign, Pokuโwhose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at โฌ1.5 millionโhas played 147 matches, scoring 33 goals and assisting 29 times. He previously played for Colchester United, Worthing, and Erie Commodores.
Meanwhile, on the international stage, the player, who debuted with the Black Stars (the senior national team) in 2021, has since earned one cap. He has also featured for the Ghana U-23 team.
