Promising Gambian talent Assan Bojang has signed a permanent 2+1-year contract with Trabzonspor, one of the most historic clubs in the Turkish Süper Lig, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The transfer, facilitated by ESohna Football Academy, marks a significant step in the young player’s career, as he joins the club’s U19 team and has already been registered for the UEFA Youth League 2025/26 season.

The move is seen as a major breakthrough not only for Bojang but also for Gambian grassroots football, as it highlights the growing international recognition of talent developed at home.

Testament to talent and determination

Bojang’s transfer follows a successful trial period with Trabzonspor, during which he impressed coaches and club officials with his technical ability, maturity, and work ethic.

He becomes one of the few Gambian youngsters to secure a move directly to a top-flight European club’s academy setup, underlining his high potential.

Speaking on the move exclusively to Footy-Africa, ESohna Football Academy President, Ebrima Sohna, expressed both pride and optimism about the transfer.

“I am really happy for him to go through a trial and make it at such a big club,” Sohna said. “We are happy with the project they have presented, and we are happy that he will develop with the youth team and play in the UEFA Youth League. It will be a good marketing for him.”

Eyes on the Future

Although the transfer fee remains undisclosed, Sohna emphasised that the focus is on long-term development rather than immediate financial gain.

“I know the player quality he is. He is very disciplined and hardworking, and I am sure he will surely realise the dream of reaching a much higher level,” Sohna added.

Trabzonspor, based in the Black Sea city of Trabzon, is known for its passionate fanbase and strong tradition of nurturing young talent. Bojang’s inclusion in their youth ranks and participation in the UEFA Youth League will give him an opportunity to showcase his skills on a continental stage, against some of Europe’s top youth academies.

Step forward for Gambian football

This transfer also shines a spotlight on ESohna Football Academy, which has been quietly working to develop young players in The Gambia.

Bojang’s success serves as inspiration for other aspiring footballers in the country and could help open more doors for young talents seeking opportunities abroad.
