Days after confirming his exit from Italian side Empoli FC, Ghanaian international midfielder Emmanuel Gyasi could join French Ligue 1 outfit RC Lens, with the latter having made initial formal contact, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

Gyasi will officially become a free agent on June 30 and has already announced his departure from Empoli following their relegation from Serie A. The player declined the option to extend his contract for an additional year, leaving the door open for a move to a new team.

A highly reputable source close to the player has confirmed Lens’ interest, stating that the club hopes to sign the 31-year-old on a two-year contract, with an option for a third year.

“Lens are aware that he’ll be a free agent in a matter of weeks and want to sign him on a two-year contract after a brilliant campaign with Empoli. He wants the move, but his demands are high, which could complicate the situation. Still, Lens are confident they can get the deal over the line,” the source told Footy-Africa in an exclusive interview.

Gyasi, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €2,000,000, has impressed in Serie A over the past two seasons, playing 77 matches and contributing three goals and three assists. He joined Empoli from Spezia, where he spent five campaigns.

Earlier in his career, the experienced and versatile player also featured for Italian sides South Tyrol, Pistoiese, Carrarese, Mantova, Torino, SC Pisa, and Pro Vercelli.

On the international stage, Gyasi has earned three competitive caps for the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars. However, he has not represented the country since the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
