Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole has officially completed a move to South African side TS Galaxy, becoming the latest Nigerian shot-stopper to secure a deal abroad.

The 22-year-old Super Eagles goalkeeper joins the Betway Premier League side on a two-year contract after leaving Nigerian champions Remo Stars just before the start of the new season.

His transfer sees him follow in the footsteps of Stanley Nwabali, Nigeria’s current number one, who has been a revelation in South Africa with Chippa United.

Bankole, who left Remo Stars as a free agent after his contract expired, will now look to establish himself in one of Africa’s most competitive leagues and continue his upward career trajectory.

His move has drawn praise from former Nigeria U23 goalkeeper Cornelius Gopar, who in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa expressed belief that the switch is a major step forward in Bankole’s development.

“Bankole is one of the goalkeepers I respect in the league, and he has proven that he is one of Nigeria’s brightest goalkeeping prospects,” said Gopar, now a goalkeeping coach with Shooting Stars SC.

“He has done really well in his time with Remo Stars, and a move abroad will be good for him. I believe it will be a new experience for him to test himself and see how far he can go.”

Gopar, who won the Nigerian FA Cup with Plateau United in 1999, also drew parallels between Bankole and Stanley Nwabali, whose own move to South Africa marked a turning point in his career.

“As a former goalkeeper myself, I know a new environment always adds to your skill set and overall development. Look at Nwabali, when he left here and went to South Africa, he came back more confident and became Nigeria’s number one. Who knows, maybe Bankole might even follow the same path and make it in the Super Eagles. I wish him all the best.” Gopar added, exclusively talking with Footy-Africa.

TS Galaxy confirmed the signing via their official X (Twitter) account, welcoming the Nigerian shot-stopper with enthusiasm:

“Welcome to the family, Kayode Bankole! A commanding presence between the posts and a true game-changer joins our ranks. We can’t wait to see you showcase your talent and passion on the big stage!”

Bankole will now look to establish himself as first choice at the club as he continues his development as he seeks to claim a shirt in the Super Eagles once again.
