Nigerian youngster Sani Suleiman is attracting strong interest from several top European clubs with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur leading the chase for his signature, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The 19-year-old winger, who currently plays for AS Trenčín in Slovakia, was one of the standout performers for the Flying Eagles at the recently concluded FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Despite Nigeria’s Round of 16 exit to Argentina, Sani’s energetic displays were enough to catch the attention of scouts from across Europe. Although he missed the knockout game against Argentina, his earlier performances turned heads, convincing many that the teenager is ready for a big move.

A source close to the player confirmed to Footy-Africa that several European clubs, including Chelsea, have already made contact ahead of the January transfer window.

“I can tell you everything is set for Sani to move in the January window. I don’t think he’ll remain at Trenčín until the summer because a lot of clubs want him,” the source revealed. “The Chelsea interest is genuine, but they’re not alone. Tottenham Hotspur also made inquiries before Chelsea came in.”

“Before the World Cup, we had an 80 percent agreement with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany, but after his strong performance in Chile, Spurs and Chelsea joined the race. His management is currently reviewing all offers to select the best deal for his growth and development. He’s still young and learning, but we’re confident he’ll become a big star for Nigeria soon,” he concluded.

Suleiman has started the season brightly with AS Trenčín, scoring two goals and providing three assists in seven appearances across all competitions.

Chukwuemeka, Nwaneri and three other Nigerian-eligible young talents

He burst into the scene in the 2023/24 season after a mid-season transfer to Akwa United where he made waves by scoring 11 goals in 19 games to help the Uyo side avoid relegation from the top flight of Nigerian club football.
