Italian Serie A outfit Atalanta BC are edging closer to reaching an agreement with Ghanaian international winger Kamaldeen Sulemana over a potential transfer, exclusive sources have revealed to Footy-Africa.

This development follows advanced negotiations between Atalanta and Southampton, with the Italian club keen on securing the 23-year-old’s services. Sulemana joined the Saints in 2023 on a four-year deal and now has two years remaining on his contract.

With the summer transfer window open, Atalanta—now managed by former Southampton head coach Ivan Juric—have intensified their pursuit. Juric, who previously worked with Sulemana, is a strong admirer of the player and is urging the club to accelerate the move.

A source close to Sulemana’s family, who also oversee his transfer affairs, indicated that the player is eager to make the switch and hopes Southampton will set reasonable terms.

“Atalanta are in pole position to sign him, having been in talks with Southampton for nearly a week now. He also wants the move but won’t force it, and will only agree to personal terms with Atalanta if both clubs reach a clear agreement. He knows his time in England hasn’t gone as planned and sees this move to Atalanta as a chance to revive his young career,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.

Notably, Sulemana was close to joining Nantes in France earlier, but Southampton blocked the move as the French club only wanted a loan deal. The winger, currently valued at 13 million euros by Transfermarkt, previously played for Stade Rennais and Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.

On the international stage, Kamaldeen Sulemana has made 20 appearances for Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, recording one assist.
