Japan vs Ghana Match Preview

Japan continue their intense preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with another clash against African powerhouses Ghana. They became the first country apart from the three host nations to qualify for the tournament, after sealing top spot in Group C of the AFC third round qualification series in March.

The Samurai Blue will be heading into their eighth appearance on the big stage by the time the tournament kicks off in June 2026.

Ghana, on the other hand, only sealed qualification for a fifth World Cup appearance in October, after a striker by Mohammed Kudus sealed a 1-0 win over the Comoros. The Black Stars won eight of their 10 group games, while they recorded one draw and suffered a single defeat.

They topped Group I of the CAF qualifying series with 25 points, six ahead of Madagascar, who finished second with 19.

Player to Watch: Mohammed Kudus (Ghana)

Mohammed Kudus’ goal sent Ghana to the World Cup and the winger will be a major attacking threat against Japan particularly with his dribbling skills and ability to produce long range strikes.
