Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol has decided not to renew the contract of 20-year-old Nigerian midfielder Uche Goodlad Gideon after a two-year stint with the team, Footy-Africa reports.
Following his departure, Sheriff Tiraspol has confirmed the signing of 21-year-old Guinean midfielder Ibrahima Soumah, who joins from fellow Moldovan side Zimbru ChiΘinΔu as a direct replacement.
Gideonβs limited playing time at Sheriff Tiraspol is believed to be a major reason why the club chose not to open negotiations for a contract extension. The Nigerian midfielder has now become a free agent following the expiration of his deal.
Born on January 16, 2005, Goodlad Gideon began his football career with Nigerian-based club Ikon Allah Football Academy, before securing his first professional contract with Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva. According to Transfermarkt, Gideon’s current market value is estimated at β¬75,000.
During his time in Israel, the unheralded Nigerian attacking midfielder made a notable impact, with his impressive performances attracting multiple offers. In 2024, Gideon moved to Moldova to join Super League giants Sheriff Tiraspol, where he had limited playing time but managed to win the Moldovan Cup during the 2024/25 season.
