Ghanaian defender Lumor Agbenyenu has entered talks with English Football League (EFL) Championship side West Bromwich Albion over a possible move in this summer transfer window, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

Agbenyenu will become a free agent on June 30, as his contract with Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried is set to expire. He joined the team one and a half years ago but has seen limited playing time. Consequently, the club has decided against extending his deal.

A source close to his representatives at Think Forward revealed that West Bromwich and the player have been in direct contact for days, with a two-year contract on the table—pending agreement on final terms.

“West Brom have a two-year contract on the table for Lumor (Agbenyenu), with just a few details left to agree on. He is interested in the move. He has good size, experience, and versatility. The club wants to finalise the deal in the next few days, provided they can reach an agreement on financial terms and playing-time guarantees,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.

During his spell at SV Ried, Agbenyenu—whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €150,000—made 23 appearances across all competitions over one and a half seasons. Before that, he featured 11 times during a brief stint with Greek side Kifisia.

The 28-year-old journeyman has also played for Greece’s Aris Thessaloniki, Spanish clubs Málaga and Real Mallorca, Turkish outfit Göztepe, Portuguese sides Sporting CP, Portimonense, and Porto U19, as well as German side 1860 Munich.

Meanwhile, on the international stage, despite multiple call-ups to Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, Agbenyenu has yet to complete a full international cap.
