Tensions at OGC Nice have escalated after France’s Sports Minister, Marina Ferrari, met Terem Moffi and Jérémie Boga in the aftermath of violent scenes involving supporters at the club’s training base.
Ferrari held discussions with both players on Tuesday, a day after issuing a forceful statement online condemning the aggression directed at the squad. She reiterated in person that the weekend’s events—during which players were surrounded, threatened and, in some cases, assaulted—were wholly unacceptable. The minister stressed that footballers’ safety is a priority and warned that violent fan behaviour has no place in French sport.
Her intervention follows a chaotic return from Lorient, where Nice’s 3–1 defeat marked a sixth consecutive loss in all competitions. Around 400 supporters reportedly gathered at the training centre to vent their frustration. Moffi and several teammates were said to have faced racist insults, physical intimidation and spitting, while sporting director Florian Maurice was also confronted.
Players losing trust in club environment
The situation has pushed Nice into a deeper crisis. Moffi, 26, and Boga, 28, have both been signed off for medical reasons—Moffi for the week, Boga for at least five days. French media suggest the duo have privately indicated they are unwilling to continue at the club, feeling their connection with a section of supporters has been irreparably damaged.
Reports claim the recent confrontations were not isolated, with the players having already been unsettled by episodes of racist abuse this season. Even Ferrari’s assurances of government backing have not eased their concerns, and both forwards are now expected to push for a move when the winter transfer window opens.

Leadership under pressure
While the players weigh their futures, uncertainty has spread to the coaching and administrative staff. Head coach Franck Haise is believed to be reflecting on his position amid the unrest, and Maurice has stepped back from his role following the weekend’s confrontation.
On the pitch, Nice sit bottom of their Europa League group and have lost four league matches in a row. But those sporting struggles are now secondary to the wider instability engulfing the club. As investigations continue, there is a growing sense that Moffi and Boga may already have played their final minutes in a Nice shirt.
