Ghanaian teenager Rufai Mohammed is emerging as one of the most coveted young defenders in Scandinavia, with Italian Serie A side Torino now expressing concrete interest in signing the highly-rated centre-back, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The youngster has been a standout performer at IFK Värnamo having joined them from Elfsborg in the Swedish Allsvenskan. Developed at Inter Allies before joining IF Elfsborg, Mohammed moved to Värnamo on loan at the start of the 2024/25 season in search of playing time.

What began as an opportunity to gain experience has turned into a breakthrough campaign. His debut famously came against his parent club, Elfsborg, and he has since cemented his place as an undisputed starter.

Elfsborg, who hold him under contract until 2028, value him highly and are expected to stand firm, but Torino’s growing interest may force negotiations ahead of the January window.

A source close to Golden Gate Group, who are his representatives, confirmed Torino’s intentions, exclusively telling Footy-Africa:

“Torino have been scouting Rufai for a while now. They are impressed by his development in Sweden and are preparing to make formal contact before the January transfer window opens. They believe he fits the profile of the modern defender they want to build around. There is real interest, this is not just monitoring.”

Having featured in 16 matches, completing 90 minutes in 15, Mohammed has impressed with his discipline, athleticism, and composure in possession. He has already scored once, holds an average match rating of 7.20, and has thrice been named in the Allsvenskan Team of the Week. His maturity and consistency have drawn praise from fans, pundits, and now top scouts across Europe.

At only 19, Rufai Mohammed’s rise has been swift and compelling, and with Serie A attention now on the horizon, his trajectory continues to point toward the very top.
