Ugandan international and versatile defender Enock Walusimbi has confirmed that he is currently in negotiations to extend his stay at four-time Uganda Premier League champions URA FC.

In an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa on Thursday, the 26-year-old expressed his desire to remain with the club, despite reported interest from Egyptian top-flight side Smouha SC and Kenyan Premier League champions Kenya Police FC. His current contract is set to expire in less than a week, on June 30.

“I am happy at URA and want to stay for a long time. We’re in talks to extend my stay, and hopefully they end on a positive note,” Walusimbi exclusively told Footy-Africa.

“A move to Egypt or Vipers? Well, I haven’t been in talks with anyone else apart from URA, and that’s the honest truth. The rest are just reports, and those never stop as long as you’re still active at the top level. In football, everything is possible, but as of now, let’s see how these talks end—because obviously, we both have terms to fulfil,” he added.

“I want to win titles with URA, and this is a very achievable target if I stay. I’m sure the board is working to tie down other key players to new contracts and also looking to bring in new faces for proper competition. My target is to stay and compete, and I hope the talks continue in a positive direction.”

In his two-year spell at URA, Walusimbi has made 57 appearances across the Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup. Previously, he played for Peterhead FC in Scotland and seven-time local champions Express FC, a side he helped win the 2020/21 championship.

Meanwhile, on the international stage, Walusimbi—who can operate as both a right-back and central defender—made his debut for the Uganda national team, The Cranes, in 2021 and has since earned 16 competitive caps.
