England-born defender Deji Oshilaja in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has said he would “definitely” welcome the chance to play for Nigeria, should an invitation to the Super Eagles arrive.

The 32-year-old, born in Bermondsey, London to Nigerian parents, remains eligible to represent either England or Nigeria at senior international level.

Oshilaja has built a reputation as one of League One’s most reliable central defenders, following an impressive spell with Mansfield Town.

Despite more than a decade of professional experience, he has yet to make his senior international debut. Speaking to Footy-Africa, he said the prospect of playing for Nigeria would be “a blessing”.

“Yes, definitely, if the opportunity arises. I’d be glad to play for Nigeria — and you never know. Who wouldn’t love to play for their country? It would be a blessing to play for the Super Eagles. Everyone who is picked to represent the team is privileged,” he exclusively told Footy-Africa.

Oshilaja has spent the bulk of his career in League One, featuring for Charlton Athletic, AFC Wimbledon and Gillingham before joining Burton Albion, where he scored 12 goals in 133 appearances across three seasons.

He moved to Mansfield Town in 2024 and made 43 appearances last season. He has already featured eight times in the current campaign.
