Ghanaian international Gideon Mensah has admitted exclusively for Footy-Africa that he is unsure whether he will remain at AJ Auxerre beyond this summer, despite having a year left on his current contract.
The 26-year-old left-back enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 season with the French side, but his future remains unclear.
βI have no idea whether Iβll stay at Auxerre or leave this summer,β Mensah told Footy-Africa in a brief response when asked about his plans.
While no formal offers have been made, reports indicate there is interest in the defender from clubs in the Netherlands and Portugal. However, nothing concrete has materialized so far.
Mensah joined Auxerre permanently in 2022 from Austrian giants RB Salzburg, having previously played on loan at French club Bordeaux. His experience in French football has served him well, and he quickly settled at Auxerre, becoming a reliable presence on the left side of defense.
He signed a contract extension in October 2024, keeping him at the club until June 2026. But with the initial contract due to expire in a year, and given his strong performances, there is growing speculation that a summer move could be on the cards.
Since joining Auxerre, Mensah has made 83 appearances in all competitions and contributed three assists. He is yet to score for the club but is valued at β¬4 million by Transfermarkt.
The coming weeks could be crucial in determining whether Mensah continues his journey in Ligue 1 or seeks a new challenge abroad.
