Massively experienced Ugandan international and left-back Herbert Achai has agreed terms with 13-time Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC on a move in this transfer window, Footy-Africa has exclusively learned.
This comes after the 25-year-old confirmed his exit from seven-time Uganda Premier League and 10-time Uganda Cup champions Express FC on June 30th, putting an end to his one-year spell there. He was poised to join NEC FC, and the two had reached mutual grounds, only for the player to make a turnaround and enter negotiations with KCCA.
A highly reputable source at Team Sports Agents, who are responsible for the player’s transfer business, has revealed that KCCA showed up with better terms for the player than what NEC had offered, which he immediately took. He’ll subsequently sign a two-year contract with KCCA, which will mark his return to a team he played for previously.
βAchai and NEC had reached a verbal agreement, but KCCA hijacked the deal with better terms. KCCA are willing to pay him β¬20,000 as sign-on bonuses and β¬1,100 as monthly salary. It’s also a team he loves and knows very well, and it wasn’t a hard decision to make when they called. As for Express, they didn’t even table offers for an extension. Everything has been agreed and he will sign his contract on Friday,β the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.
Ironically, the versatile player, who can also play as a central defender, joined Express from KCCA at the start of last week. He is a two-time Uganda Premier League and one-time Uganda Cup champion, silverware he won with KCCA, previously.
At Express in the concluded 20/24/25 campaign, he played 26 Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup games, playing in numerous roles, as deployed by head coach Badru Kaddu. At KCCA, across four seasons, he featured in 123 games, scoring six goals with 13 assists, across all competitions, including the CAF Champions League.
While he hasn’t received senior national team (Uganda Cranes) caps in recent times, he has previously managed to rack up four competitive appearances in the shirt. He is also part of the provisional squad preparing for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
