Former Nigeria youth international William Agada has taken a significant step in his career after officially joining Spanish Segunda División side Real Zaragoza from Major League Soccer outfit Real Salt Lake.

Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, former Super Eagles midfielder Bature Yaro, who shared formative years with Agada in Jos, expressed confidence that the move could be a turning point.

“I was very happy when I heard the news and I sent him a congratulatory message wishing him all the best,” Yaro exclusively told Footy-Africa. “I believe the time is right for him to come back to Europe as he has always had the dream to play in a top five league

The Spanish second division is a very strong league. It is stronger than some top divisions in Europe. I hope he shows what he can do. Agada is a humble guy and ready to learn. His physicality will give him an edge over defenders and hopefully, he gets a move to La Liga soon.”

Former Nigeria U-23 winger Edward Weng also backed Agada to thrive in Spain, drawing parallels with another Nigerian who has blossomed in the country.

“I got the news today because I have been keeping my eye on him. As someone I know since he was a kid, it is nice to see him head to Spain,” Weng noted.

“Who knows, maybe he might even be like Uche (Christantus) and grow rapidly in Spain and show the world what he can do. It is interesting to see him end up in Zaragoza. I hope he can shine there and make himself and his family proud.”

Born in Bauchi and raised in Jos, Agada’s journey has been one defined by resilience and steady progression. The 26-year-old forward has been with Real Salt Lake since 2025, having previously featured for Sporting Kansas City in the MLS and enjoyed spells in Israel with Hapoel Haifa, Hapoel Jerusalem and Hapoel Katamon.

His move to Zaragoza marks a return to European football for the first time since 2021 and opens a fresh chapter in his professional career.

Agada completed his medicals on Monday and was unveiled by the Spanish club the same day, as Zaragoza push for a strong end to the season.

Valued at around €800k, the powerful attacker made 26 appearances for Real Salt Lake, scoring three goals and providing assists, contributions that highlighted his work rate and physical presence despite limited minutes.

For Agada, the move to Real Zaragoza represents more than just a transfer as he now has a chance to reassert himself on the European stage and take another step towards fulfilling his long-held ambitions.
