Former Ghana U20 forward James Ampofo is on the verge of completing a move to Norwegian Eliteserien club Strømsgodset IF in a deal believed to be a significant investment, though the fee remains undisclosed, Footy-Africa.com can exclusively confirm.

The 21-year-old, currently in Norway, is expected to undergo his medical and sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Drammen-based club.

Ampofo, who currently plays for second-tier side Raufoss IL, has been in great form this season, scoring six goals and registering one assist in 12 appearances. His performances attracted attention from several clubs across Europe, including Aalesunds FK (Norway), RWD Molenbeek (Belgium), Sarpsborg 08 (Norway), and Bryne FK (Norway). However, it is Strømsgodset who have won the race for the highly rated attacker.

Ampofo rose to national attention as part of the Ghana U20 squad that won the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania under coach Abdul Karim Zito. He made his international debut in the semi-final victory over Cameroon, earning praise for his attacking energy and composure.

His representative confirmed interest from multiple clubs but chose not to disclose the final transfer fee, citing confidentiality.

Strømsgodset believe Ampofo will add depth and goal-scoring threat to their attack as they continue to rebuild. For the player, this marks a return to top-flight football and a major step forward in his promising career.
