Ivan Ahimbisibwe remains on the fringes of Uganda Cranes’ Africa Cup of Nations campaign, yet the KCCA forward is showing no signs of frustration as he patiently waits for his opportunity to make an impact on the continental stage.
Currently part of Uganda’s squad in Morocco, Ahimbisibwe is still searching for his first AFCON appearance.
Speaking to the media after the Cranes’ draw with Tanzania, the striker struck a calm and mature tone, insisting that selection is earned and that trust must be placed in the coaching staff’s decisions.
“We have to always wait for our time,” he replied with a smile when asked if he could have done better if he played. “It is always a game and we have so many good and quality players and everyone who gets a chance surely deserves to play so we shall wait for our time,” he added.
AFCON 2025: Five takeaways from Uganda’s stalemate with Tanzania
With Uganda now facing a decisive final Group C clash against Nigeria, Ahimbisibwe’s focus, like that of the entire squad, is firmly on qualification rather than individual ambition. The Cranes must secure victory to keep their AFCON hopes alive, and the forward believes the team has what it takes to rise to the occasion.
“We are going back to the drawing back. We expect to have a good game against Nigeria. We believe in ourselves and come with a good mentality and try to win.”
Despite not featuring so far, Ahimbisibwe’s name continues to surface in discussions among fans and analysts, many of whom see him as a potential difference-maker in Uganda’s attack.
Whether head coach Paul Put decides to unleash him against the Super Eagles remains to be seen, but for now, the striker is content to stay ready, focused, and prepared should his moment finally arrive on Africa’s biggest football stage.
