In an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, El Cambio Academy founder and agent Thomas Thor, he has called for patience over the future of rising Ugandan star James Bogere, despite mounting interest from several top European clubs.

Bogere, who currently plays for El Cambio Academy in Masaka, has been one of Uganda’s standout performers at the ongoing 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup, finding the net twice, against Canada and France, as the Cubs continue to make waves on the global stage.

The gifted forward first caught widespread attention during the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where he powered Uganda’s qualification campaign with an astonishing seven goals in four matches, including two hat-tricks. His exploits earned him a surprise call-up to the Uganda Cranes squad for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), before the tournament was postponed to August 2025 by CAF.

With scouts from across Europe now closely monitoring his progress, Thomas Thor is preaching caution.

“My phone has been buzzing nonstop about the kids, especially James Bogere,” Thor exclusively told Footy-Africa. “But we must take it easy. Our focus is on developing him the right way, not rushing him into a project that doesn’t fit his long-term growth.”

Thor emphasized that Bogere’s development remains the Academy’s top priority, insisting that the teenager will only make a move when the environment guarantees both footballing progress and personal maturity

“James is a special talent, the kind who can lead Uganda’s next generation,” Thor added. “If he gets a Cranes call-up for the AFCON later this year, we’ll be proud. But for now, it’s about keeping him grounded and ensuring every step he takes is the right one.”

Bogere’s blend of flair, composure, and eye for goal has made him one of the most exciting prospects in African football, and El Cambio Academy appears determined to ensure his rise is as sustainable as it is spectacular.
