Nigerian midfielder Ahmad Adamu has signed his first professional contract, joining Israeli club Maccabi Bnei Reineh from Footwork FC Abuja.
The Kano-born player, who can also play as a forward, drew interest from European scouts during a scouting program in Abuja. After weighing his options, Maccabi Bnei Reineh secured his signature.
A club official, who spoke exclusively to Footy-Africa, confirmed that the deal has been completed while praising Adamu’s playing style.
“I am happy we were able to get the deal over the line for the young boy, and the team will enjoy his services a lot,” the official said. “He is a good midfielder who loves to drive the ball forward and has an eye for a good pass. His best attribute is his ability to create chances, as he sees the pitch much more than many midfielders his age.”
The official added that Adamu’s creativity and game intelligence should translate into regular assists once he gets playing time.
“If he gets a chance to play, I can assure you he will produce a lot of assists because he is a creative and intelligent player who plays beyond his age,” the official said. “Very soon, people will hear about him. Right now he isn’t well known to many Nigerians, but his name will be known soon.”
The official noted that Maccabi Bnei Reineh offers Adamu a lower-pressure environment to develop.
“There is a lot expected from him, and it’s good he’s gone to an environment that won’t put too much pressure on him and will allow him to grow. I’m optimistic he’ll be one of the best young midfielders from Nigeria in a year or two.”
Adamu now begins his professional career in Israeli football, with expectations building around his development in Reineh.
