As the Super Eagles get set to converge for the international window next week, former Flying Eagles coach Paul Aigbogun in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has hailed the invitation of one of his former players to the team.
Genk winger Collins Sor earned his first-ever senior call-up to the national side when Eric Chelle named his squad earlier in the week.
An elated Aigbogun exclusively told Footy-Africa that he is proud of his work, as Sor is now one of the players he nurtured who has gone on to reach the senior national team.
“I am really happy for Collins (Sor) as his hard work has finally paid off with this invitation,” he said. “He was someone I saw and scouted in Port Harcourt when we were building a team for the Africa U-20 Nations Cup, and since then he has been doing well.”
βHe is fast, I mean very fast, and can function as a winger and striker. I think he is yet to even fulfil his potential, but I hope he can bring some pace to the national team. I think just recently, he was clocked as the fastest player in the Belgian top flight, but he is not just about pace; he has good positional awareness and finishing too. He will definitely be a plus for the Super Eagles, and I am happy for him.β

The former Warri Wolves and Enyimba coach also revealed his satisfaction at being able to develop players from the youth teams to the senior side.
βI think we did a good job with the squad we were able to assemble for Nigeria, right from the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations in Niamey to the U-20 World Cup. From that team, we have the likes of Akor Adams and Igoh Ogbu, who featured at the last AFCON, while Victor Boniface, Valentine Ozornwafor and Kingsley Michael have also featured for the Super Eagles.”
βI also had the Dele-Bashiru brothers with me at some point. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru did not make the cut then, but Tom Dele-Bashiru did. While Fisayo is now part of the team, Tom was named in the last provisional squad before the AFCON. I always keep tabs on them, and I am happy with their progress. I hope many of them will soon feature for the Super Eagles,β Aigbogun concluded.
Sor, who has been in great form for his Belgian club recently, featured prominently for Nigeriaβs U-20 team under Aigbogun at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup held in Poland.
Since then, he has played for Slavia Prague before moving to Genk and, seven years after that tournament, he has now earned his first invitation to the Super Eagles.
