Tanzanian Premier League outfit Azam FC have officially completed the signing of Ugandan striker Hassan Mubiru from SC Villa, bringing an end to his successful spell with the record Uganda Premier League champions.
The highly-rated forward has penned a two-year contract that will keep him at the Chamazi-based club until 2028 as Azam strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
Mubiru’s move had long been expected after reaching an agreement with the Ice Cream Makers shortly after last month’s Stanbic Uganda Cup final. The transfer was finalised after SC Villa’s 2-1 defeat to Kitara in the showpiece at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
His arrival marks another significant Ugandan presence in the Tanzanian top flight, following Allan Okello’s switch to Young Africans during the January transfer window.

Azam have also maintained their tradition of recruiting Ugandan talent over the years. Mubiru joins a list of compatriots that includes Brian Umony, Brian Majwega and Nicholas Wadada, all of whom previously represented the club.
The connection between Azam and Ugandan football extends beyond the playing staff, with experienced tactician George ‘Best’ Nsimbe having previously served the club as both head coach and assistant coach.
Having impressed with his goalscoring exploits for SC Villa, Mubiru will now be hoping to make a similar impact in Tanzania as Azam target domestic success and a strong campaign in continental football.
