Danish Superliga outfit FC Nordsjælland have moved early to lock in one of West Africa’s most exciting young talents, confirming the signing of teenage forward Hubert Yao from FC San Pedro.

The highly rated Ivorian youngster, currently just 16, will officially link up with the Danish side in January 2028 upon turning 18, in line with international transfer regulations.

Despite the wait, the agreement ensures that Nordsjælland have secured a promising attacking option well in advance.

In a statement released by the club, they highlighted both his pedigree and potential:

“The young Ivorian striker Hubert Yao will join FC Nordsjælland in January 2028, when he turns 18. The talented offensive player comes from the club FC San Pedro in Ivory Coast and has already represented and scored for his country during the U17 World Cup in Qatar last year, while in the coming weeks he may also play for the African Championships as part of the Ivorian U17 national team.

And the 190-centimeter-tall striker can do that with the certainty that he has a future in place. Because he will be part of FC Nordsjælland in a little over a year and a half.”

Yao, known for his imposing 190cm frame and attacking versatility, has already made waves on the international stage. He featured for Ivory Coast U17 national team during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, where he also found the back of the net, an early indication of his goal-scoring instincts.

Speaking after sealing the move, the teenager shared his excitement:

“I am very happy that it is now confirmed that I will join FC Nordsjælland when I turn 18. It is a childhood dream come true for me, and both my family and I are very proud of it. I can hardly wait to play my first game for the club.”

The deal continues Nordsjælland’s well-established model of investing in emerging talent, particularly from Africa, with a long-term development pathway in mind.

For Yao, it represents both a major career milestone and a stepping stone toward European football at the highest level.
