Vipers SC have today officially unveiled Uganda Cranes star Farouk Miya as the club’s newest signing, completing one of the biggest transfers in recent Uganda Premier League history after the attacking midfielder signed a two-year contract with the reigning champions.
The grand unveiling marks the return of one of the finest players ever to wear the Venoms shirt, with Miya making an emotional homecoming to St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, more than a decade after launching his career at the club. His arrival is a statement of intent from Vipers as they gear up for a demanding 2026/27 season that includes the Uganda Premier League, Stanbic Uganda Cup, CECAFA Kagame Cup and CAF Champions League.
The 28-year-old first starred for Vipers between 2013 and 2016, playing a defining role in delivering the club’s maiden Uganda Premier League title during the 2014/15 campaign.
Renowned for his flair, creativity and eye for goal, Miya scored 20 league goals in 49 appearances and swept the season’s biggest individual honours, winning both the FUFA Footballer of the Year award and the Uganda Premier League Most Valuable Player accolade.

His outstanding displays earned him a landmark move to Belgian giants Standard Liรจge in January 2016, making him one of Uganda’s most celebrated football exports and paving the way for many others to pursue careers abroad.
Miya went on to enjoy an accomplished professional journey across Europe, winning the Belgian Cup with Standard Liรจge in 2018 before featuring for Royal Excel Mouscron, Azerbaijan’s Sabail FK, Croatian side HNK Gorica, Turkish clubs Konyaspor and รaykur Rizespor, Ukrainian outfit FC Lviv and most recently Greek side Ilioupoli FC.
Internationally, Miya has cemented his place among Uganda’s modern football greats.
He was instrumental in guiding the Uganda Cranes to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, ending the nation’s 39-year wait for qualification, and represented the country at the finals in Gabon. With 23 international goals, he remains one of Uganda’s all-time leading scorers.
His return brings far more than attacking quality to Denis Lavagne’s squad. Vipers have reunited with a proven champion whose experience, leadership and winning mentality are expected to elevate an already formidable team.
Widely regarded as one of the marquee signings of the transfer window, Miya’s unveiling reinforces Vipers’ ambition to dominate on the domestic front and mount a serious challenge in continental football.
