Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has expressed his delight at returning from injury, insisting that winning the league title with Slavia Prague would be the crowning moment of the season for him and his teammates.
The 26-year-old centre-back missed Slavia’s last four league matches but made a welcome return to the matchday squad in the recent fixture against Dukla Prague, in what has been a campaign disrupted by injuries.
In total, Ogbu has made just 10 appearances this season. His limited involvement has also been influenced by international duty, having represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations in December and January.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa, Ogbu said he is thrilled to be back and eager to contribute as the Prague-based side push to secure the Czech top-flight title.
“Sometimes when it comes to injuries, it is something you cannot stop. You can only focus on prevention, but for me, I am happy to be back,” the defender said. “Injury is not a place any player wants to be. For me, it is a thing of joy to rejoin the team, to be playing football again with the boys and to feel the moment of football again.”
Igoh Ogbu hails Super Eagles’ quality, believes team can reach higher level
“It makes me happy to come back to the team. They have been doing very well while I was away and I am proud of them. Joining them again is good, and now I have to work hard to help the team win things together. Coming back, I want to do my best, help the team in every way I can, continue to grow, and deliver for our fans so that at the end of the day we lift the trophy. That is what I stand for,” he concluded.
Slavia Prague currently sit top of the league table after 24 matches with 58 points, seven clear of their closest challengers, Sparta Prague, as the season edges toward its decisive run-in.
