Thirteen-time Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC have wrapped up the signing of young and budding right-back Lazaro Bwambale, with official unveiling set for the next days, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The East African giants have secured the 17-year-old, who left 2023/24 Uganda Cup winners Kitara FC at the end of the recently concluded campaign, after the expiry of his contract. With the latter, he had established himself as one of the best right-backs in the Uganda Premier League, despite his age.
A source close to the player has exclusively confirmed the developments, indicating that KCCA have been forced to part with €23,000 (UGX. 97 million) as sign-on bonuses for Bwambale, who will also receive monthly wages worth €2,400 (UGX 10 million).
“Lazaro (Bwambale) is now a KCCA player, having passed his medical on Monday. The club acted quickly, as they wanted to put off interest from Vipers SC and Tanzania’s Simba SC. But, also, the player wanted the deal, it’s why it happened so fast. It’s a statement signing for KCCA, as he is currently one of the best in his position, the age is deceptive. Unveiling will be this week, but everything has been signed,” the source exclusively told Footy-Africa.
Last season at Kitara, he played 29 games across the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup. In the 2023/24 campaign, as a teenager, he played 23 games to help the club win the Uganda Cup, which marked their first major trophy in history.
Notably, Bwambale, who can also operate as a winger, joined Kitara in 2023 from Regional League side Rwenzori Lions FC. He now reunites with his former coach Brian Ssenyondo who was recently confirmed as KCCA’s Co-Coach alongside Jackson Magera.
Meanwhile, on the international stage, while has yet to claim a maiden cap for the Uganda Cranes (the senior national team), he has received call-ups previously. He is also part of the squad gearing to feature in the 2025 African Nations Championships (CHAN).
