Ghanaian forward Nathan Opoku has secured his long-term future at Leicester City after the club confirmed the striker has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the King Power Stadium until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.

The 24-year-old attacker joined the Foxes in January 2023 from Ghanaian outfit FDM Field Masters Sporting Club and has since been carefully guided through a development pathway designed to accelerate his growth in European football.

As part of that process, Opoku previously spent two loan spells with Belgian Pro League side OH Leuven. During his time in Belgium, the Ghanaian made 25 appearances while gaining valuable experience and adjusting to the demands of the European game.

This season, Opoku has continued his progression in England’s lower leagues while on loan at Newport County in EFL League Two. The striker has been a regular feature for the Exiles, registering 23 league appearances and scoring five goals so far.

One of those goals came in Newport’s impressive 3-1 triumph over Salford City, further highlighting the striker’s growing influence in the team.

His current loan move also sees him working under a familiar Leicester connection, with Newport County managed by former Foxes defender Christian Fuchs.

“The contract extension reflects Leicester’s belief in Nathan’s potential,” the club stated, emphasizing their commitment to his long-term development.

With his future now secured at Leicester, Opoku will aim to keep building momentum at Newport County, using the opportunity for consistent first-team football as he works toward breaking into Leicester City’s senior setup in the coming seasons.
