Nigeria defender Chibuike Nwaiwu is on the verge of another transfer, barely 18 months after leaving Nigerian giants Enyimba for Austria, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
A source close to the player has exclusively confirmed to Footy-Africa that Trabzonspor have indeed made an approach, but negotiations remain complicated due to Wolfsberger’s valuation of the player.
“It is true Trabzonspor have made enquiries for the player and have already tabled a bid for Nwaiwu, with the player keen to move,” the source told Footy-Africa. “However, what they are willing to pay is not up to what the Austrian club want before they can allow him leave. The club wants about €10 million for Chibuike. That is what I gathered, but I am not sure Trabzonspor will add more money to the deal.”
“There is still some time for the deal to be closed, but there are other clubs from France and Germany who are interested too. He isn’t short of offers at all. It is about how much Wolfsberger want. The ball is in their court because he has a deal until the summer of 2027 with them. Let us see how things go,” the source added.
The 22-year-old had been a stalwart for Enyimba in the Nigeria Premier Football League, attracting strong interest from several clubs before eventually securing a move to Austrian side Wolfsberger AC.

Since arriving in Austria, Nwaiwu has enjoyed a meteoric rise. Initially deployed as a defensive midfielder, he has successfully transitioned into a centre-back, a switch that has enhanced his game and drawn widespread attention for his composure, physical presence, and tactical awareness.
With the January transfer window now open, Turkish giants Trabzonspor have reportedly tabled an €8 million bid for the defender, who is currently valued at €6 million by Transfermarkt. Interest is also believed to be coming from clubs in Belgium, France, and Germany.
Nwaiwu has made 12 appearances for Wolfsberger this season, picking up five yellow cards, and his continued development suggests he could be set for another major step in his career if the right deal is agreed.
