Gambian forward Omar Janneh has taken a major step forward in his professional career after completing a permanent transfer to Swiss Super League side FC Lausanne-Sport from Spanish giants Atlético Madrid.
For Janneh, the move represents more than just a change of scenery. After developing within Atlético Madrid’s system, the switch to Switzerland offers him a clearer pathway to regular first-team football—an opportunity he believes is crucial at this stage of his career.
“I am super excited for this journey,” Janneh exclusively told Footy-Africa after following the announcement. “Trying to get first-team experience is my priority now. I hope to reach that and make it to the senior level of the national team too. The goal is for my club football first.”
The deal, reportedly worth €2 million, also includes a sell-on clause that will see Atlético Madrid benefit from any future transfer involving the young attacker. It is a clear sign of the confidence both clubs have in Janneh’s potential and long-term value.
FC Lausanne-Sport, known for nurturing young talent in the Swiss top flight, provides an ideal environment for the Gambian international prospect to grow, adapt to senior football, and showcase his abilities on a consistent basis.
The Super League’s competitive nature and strong exposure in European football could play a key role in accelerating his development.
