Iñaki Williams has candidly acknowledged that the current season has not unfolded the way he had hoped, describing it as one of the more testing periods of his career with Athletic Bilbao.

The Ghana international featured over the weekend as Bilbao fell to a narrow 2-1 loss against Villarreal CF at San Mamés, a result that further underlined the team’s inconsistency and his own personal struggles this term.

Unlike last season, where Williams was a driving force in attack, registering an impressive 11 goals and 9 assists across all competitions, the 31-year-old has found it difficult to replicate that influence. A series of injury setbacks has disrupted his rhythm, limiting his overall impact. In 32 appearances so far, he has managed just three goals and four assists, a noticeable dip for a player long admired for his reliability and endurance.

Now wearing the captain’s armband, Williams has not shied away from addressing his form. Known for his durability and high standards, the forward admitted that he is currently operating below his usual level.

“Honestly, I’m not feeling well. I’m trying to be the Iñaki that everyone knows,” he admitted, highlighting his determination to rediscover the level that has defined his career.

Despite the frustrations, there remains a clear sense of resolve. As the campaign edges toward its conclusion, Williams is focused on regaining sharpness and confidence, knowing his resurgence could be pivotal for Bilbao’s ambitions.

For Athletic Club, a return to form for their talisman could provide the spark needed to stabilize performances and finish the season on a stronger note.
