Former Super Eagles forward Mohammed Gambo in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has expressed his surprise over Emmanuel Dennis’ current situation, wondering why the talented forward remains without a club even though the European football season is already in full swing.
Dennis, 27, parted ways with Nottingham Forest a few weeks ago and has been without a team since then.
Last week, reports emerged that Watford, his former club, attempted to bring him back to the Championship side, but after medical tests, the club decided against signing him, citing fitness concerns. However, there are suggestions that they might revisit the move by Christmas.
Gambo, who represented Nigeria at the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, insists that Dennis is far too talented to be without a club at this stage of his career.
“I really do not understand why he is not playing first-team football or with a club at the moment because he is a very good player,” Mohammed told Footy-Africa exclusively. “There has to be something wrong somewhere or something I am not aware of. A talented player like that should be scoring goals and providing assists, but right now, he has no club”.
”Is it a discipline problem? Is it motivation? I really do not understand it, and I wish I had the answers. His style of play is one that many clubs would want, but for some reason, he is still not playing. I heard Watford wanted to sign him, but later changed their minds. I hope he can get a club soon as a free agent,” the Kano Pillars assistant coach added.
Dennis first joined Watford in the summer of 2021, scoring 10 goals during the club’s 2021/22 Premier League campaign, before securing an eight-figure transfer to Nottingham Forest the following year.

He made a brief return to Vicarage Road in January 2024, netting four goals in 18 appearances. The forward later spent time on loan at Blackburn Rovers and has been without a club since leaving Forest in the summer.
Dennis has represented Nigeria eight times, scoring once against São Tomé and Príncipe.
