Paris FC winger Moses Simon in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa expressed confidence that the Super Eagles can turn their fortunes around as they prepare for a crucial round of FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.
The pressure is mounting on the team, but Simon remains optimistic that the team can rise to the occasion.
Speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa from Uyo, where the squad is preparing for Saturday’s clash against Rwanda, the 30-year-old winger stressed the importance of unity and determination.
“Actually, I am always happy to be invited to play for Nigeria,” Simon said. “When you are called up to play for Nigeria, I am fighting for the nation, for myself, and for my family. “We are confident. The last time we played, I think it was against Zimbabwe, nobody believed they would get a point. We had so many opportunities to win the game but we all know it is football.”

Simon emphasised that the players understand the stakes, especially with back-to-back fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“Now we are here again against Rwanda and South Africa. Of course, we all know it is not all about the supporters; it is about us, the players,” he added. “We want to go to the World Cup and we want to make the nation proud. Putting our heads together, we know we have to do more. Of course, I can say more is not enough; we have to keep working to give a good result. So, we will first focus on Rwanda and then go ahead with South Africa, but first, we start with one.”
The former Nantes winger also called on Nigerian supporters to rally behind the team as they aim to revive their World Cup campaign.
“I want to say to the supporters to keep believing in us and not to give up,” Simon said. “Of course, we know it will not be easy because we want to be there (at the World Cup). We just need their support; they should keep supporting the Super Eagles.”
As the Super Eagles prepare to walk out at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, the latest international window has a lot of ramifications on Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes.
