Ajax goalkeeper Paul Reverson has admitted that missing out on Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup was a difficult disappointment, but the young shot-stopper remains confident that his chance on the international stage will eventually arrive.

The 20-year-old was among the players named in the Black Stars’ provisional 28-man roster ahead of the tournament but failed to secure a place in the final squad selected for the global showpiece.

While the exclusion was a setback, Reverson has chosen to view the experience as part of his development, believing age and patience are on his side.

“I wish I was in the Black Stars team for the World Cup, but now is not the time. I’m still very young,” Reverson told 3Sports.

Widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most exciting goalkeeping prospects, Reverson has steadily progressed through the ranks in the Netherlands. After developing his game at Zeeburgia and AFC, he earned a move to Dutch giants Ajax, where he currently turns out for Jong Ajax in the Eerste Divisie.

Despite being eligible to represent the Netherlands internationally, the talented goalkeeper pledged his allegiance to Ghana, a decision that has already seen him make significant strides within the country’s national team setup.

His first taste of international football came with Ghana’s U-20 side in 2025, where a series of impressive displays accelerated his rise through the ranks. Those performances eventually caught the attention of the senior national team coaches, culminating in a maiden Black Stars call-up for the friendly encounter against Mexico in May.

Although his World Cup dream has been delayed, Reverson remains firmly in the picture for Ghana’s future and is expected to continue pushing for a place in the national team following the tournament.

Meanwhile, Ghana will begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup journey in Group L, where they are drawn against Panama, England and Croatia. The Black Stars open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before taking on England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. Their group-stage schedule concludes with a meeting against Croatia on June 27 as they seek a place in the knockout rounds.
