Liverpool FC have finally decided against signing Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh this summer, bringing an intense week-long transfer saga to an end, Footy-Africa can confirm.
Minteh had emerged as one of Liverpool’s top targets in the final days of the transfer window, with the Premier League giants holding discussions with the player’s camp on Monday night and presenting a fresh transfer model aimed at convincing Brighton.
While Liverpool viewed the proposal positively, the club ultimately decided not to proceed with the move, with Minteh’s injury becoming the latest concern for a Liverpool side undergoing significant transition.
Liverpool had already seen two bids rejected by Brighton — £50 million and £60 million — during the saga, before making a late push to explore another possible structure for the deal.
Minteh was understood to be a favourite for Liverpool, particularly given the profile of player wanted by head coach Andoni Iraola, who valued his pace, defensive work and attacking qualities.
However, the deal is now off. Minteh will remain at Brighton, where his immediate focus will be on recovering from injury and returning to action ahead of the January transfer window.
