Former Super Eagles forward Jonathan Akpoborie, speaking exclusively for Footy-Africa, believes Victor Boniface would be a fantastic addition to AC Milan’s squad, but he would prefer to see the striker remain at Bayer Leverkusen for the time being.

Boniface, 24, is currently attracting interest from several top clubs. Saudi side Al Nassr have reportedly joined the race for the Nigerian forward, alongside Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan. With speculation growing, reports suggest that Leverkusen would consider offers that match their valuation of the player.

Back in training for preseason under new Leverkusen manager Erik ten Hag, Boniface is preparing for what could be a defining campaign in the Bundesliga. And according to Akpoborie, who enjoyed a successful career in Germany with clubs like VfL Stuttgart and Wolfsburg, the young striker still has much to achieve in Europe before considering a move elsewhere.

“Boniface did so well last season and he will be an influential player for Bayer Leverkusen this season,” Akpoborie said.

Speaking on the possibility of a transfer to AC Milan, Akpoborie believes the move could elevate the striker’s career.

“If that move materializes, it will be an upgrade for him and will act as a stepping stone to move to the Premiership,” he noted.

However, when asked about Saudi Arabia’s interest, the former Hansa Rostock striker was blunt in his assessment, suggesting it is too early for Boniface to make that kind of switch.

“Saudi what? I know money plays a significant role in life, but he is still too young for such a move,” Akpoborie said. “He will make good money in Europe. Saudi is not running away. It will still be there three to four years later.”

Boniface, who joined Bayer Leverkusen last season, has quickly become a key figure at the club. He has scored 22 goals in 42 Bundesliga matches and provided 11 assists, making him one of the standout Nigerian performers in Europe in recent times.
