Exciting Nigerian youngster Wahab Musa has taken a major step in his young career after completing a move to Spanish Segunda side Málaga CF, signing a three-year contract from Lagos-based Mavlon Football Club, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The highly rated defender will initially link up with Málaga’s reserve team, with the club viewing him as a long-term project and pencilling him in for promotion to the first team next season.
Widely touted as one of the most promising young defenders in Nigeria, Musa arrives from Mavlon FC, a growing talent hub that continues to supply Europe with elite prospects.
The Lagos outfit has already produced players such as Salim Fago, who recently joined Czech giants Viktoria Plzeň, as well as Charles Agada and Israel Ayuma, both currently with Croatian side NK Istra and regulars at Nigeria’s youth levels.
Musa is a modern-day left-back in every sense of the word. Strong and physically imposing, he is also composed on the ball, a smooth tackler who reads the game well and rarely gets outsmarted by attackers.
One of his standout qualities is his ability to transition seamlessly from defence to attack, using his pace to overlap and deliver accurate, dangerous crosses into the opposition’s box – attributes that fit neatly into Málaga’s long-term vision in the Spanish Segunda.
Reports from Spain suggest the club sees Musa as an ideal fit for their future ambitions, investing early in a player they believe can grow into a first-team regular with the right guidance and exposure. He is expected to spend time with the reserve side before gaining promotion to the main side next season.
Although the 18-year-old is yet to represent Nigeria at youth level, he is already regarded as a strong candidate for the next Nigeria U-20 setup, with many observers convinced it is only a matter of time before he earns international recognition.
Musa will not be entirely alone in Spain. He joins former Mavlon FC teammate Elisha Ephraim, who signed for CD Castellón last week as they open a new chapter in their careers.
