Nigerian forward Joel Yakubu has joined Latvian top-flight side BFC Daugavpils on loan from Czech club Slovan Liberec until the end of the season, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.
The deal was completed on Monday after both clubs reached an agreement.
Yakubu has found first-team opportunities limited at Liberec, and the loan move is understood to be aimed at giving the 20-year-old regular playing time to aid his development at senior level.
A reliable source disclosed to Footy-Africa that the striker, who celebrated his 20th birthday last week, is keen to test himself and make an impact at the highest level.
He spent the 2024-25 season with Slovan Liberec’s B team, scoring five goals in 18 league appearances. In the 2025-26 campaign, he registered one goal in 16 league matches for the reserve side.
Yakubu also had a brief spell with the club’s under-19 team, featuring in nine games and scoring once.
He joined Slovan Liberec in 2024 from Nigerian academy side Mahanaim Football Club.
