Nigeria’s participation in the proposed four-nation international friendly tournament in Jordan appears to be off as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, Footy-Africa can confirm.

The Super Eagles were scheduled to travel to Amman, the capital of Jordan, during this month’s FIFA international window for a mini-tournament involving host nation Jordan, Iran, and Costa Rica.

Three-time African champions Nigeria were expected to feature in the Four-Nation Invitational Tournament as part of preparations for upcoming international competitions.

However, the worsening crisis involving Iran has cast serious doubt over the tournament’s feasibility.

With uncertainty surrounding Iran’s participation and concerns about security and logistics, the competition is now likely to be called off.

In an exclusive chat with Footy-Africa, a member of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that Nigeria will not be taking part in the tournament.

“It is unfortunate that the events of the past few weeks have escalated to this level despite all the arrangements that had been made for the tournament to hold,” the official said. “However, I can confirm to you that Nigeria will not be part of that mini-tournament during this international window.”

Super Eagles’ trip to Jordan in doubt as Middle East crisis threatens Amman games

“There were discussions about possibly moving the games to another location, but circumstances surrounding logistics and the availability of teams have been a major challenge. I cannot speak for the other teams involved, but I can tell you that Nigeria will not travel to Amman for the tournament.”

The official also revealed that the NFF is currently exploring alternative plans for the national team during the international break.

“We are currently in talks with another team to play a game, possibly a single friendly match in Europe. That is the priority for us now. If anything new comes up, I will let you know, but the Super Eagles will not be travelling to Amman for the tournament,” he added.

The tournament was initially scheduled to kick off on March 27, 2026, with Nigeria facing Iran, while hosts Jordan and Costa Rica were the other teams billed to participate.
