Everton vs Chelsea match preview

Everton head into this clash against Chelsea hoping for a return to winning ways after their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Arsenal the last time out. Despite a very impressive display throughout the game, they conceded two late goals to fall to their 11th league defeat of the season.

The Toffees remain in eighth-position on the standings with 43 points and they remain in contention to finish in an European spot, which would mark a return to Europe for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, suffered a 1-0 defeat in front of their home fans to Newcastle United in their last match dashing their hopes of a top four finish. The Blues have now dropped to sixth on the Premier League standings with 48 points after 30 games, although they are only three points behind Aston Villa, who are in fourth position.

The two-time European champions have won 13 of their league matches this season, recording nine draws while last weekend’s defeat was their eighth of the league season.

Prediction

Chelsea have the edge in head to head meetings and they also have enough quality to secure a favourable outcome from this encounter.

Everton vs Chelsea Head-to-Head record

  • 13.12.2025 – Chelsea 2-0 Everton
  • 26.04.2025 – Chelsea 1-0 Everton
  • 22.12.2024 – Everton 0-0 Chelsea
  • 15.04.2024 – Chelsea 6-0 Everton
  • 10.12.2023 – Everton 2-0 Chelsea

Chelsea have dominated recent meetings between these two sides, winning three of the last five matches.

However, the Blues are winless in their last two visits to Everton, including a goalless result in their last trip.

Recent form: Everton

Everton have been inconsistent of late and they have only won two of their last five matches in the Premier League, a 3-2 win at Newcastle United and a 2-0 home win against Burnley.

The Toffees have kept only one clean sheet in their last eight games, although they only failed to score twice in that period, during a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United and the 2-0 loss to Arsenal in their last match.

Recent form: Chelsea

Chelsea have suffered a dip in form in recent matches, losing consecutive matches to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and also to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The Blues have not kept a clean sheet since February, when they defeated Hull City 4-0 in the fourth round of the competition.

Five players who could make debut for Nigeria before AFCON 2027

Nigerian-eligible defender Tosin Adarabioyo will be eyeing a return to the lineup ahead of the clash against Everton, after coming on as a substitute in his last few appearances.

The 28-year-old brings experience and is also a threat with aerial balls in the opposite box and could make a vital contribution in this encounter.
