Despite initial interest, Dutch Eredivisie side RKC Waalwijk have dropped out of the race to net budding Ugandan left-back Marvin Mukiibi from Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants FC, Footy-Africa sources have exclusively learned.

The Dutch side had initiated contact with the player’s representatives at Prosper Sports Agency on Friday, but they have now walked away from the negotiations, after failure to reach an agreement on the financial compensation to Wakiso Giants. Waalwijk had monitored the 19-year-old since last year’s All-Africa Ghana games held in Accra, Ghana.

His agent at Prosper Sports Agency, Dennis Namanya, exclusively confirmed to Footy-Africa that Waalwijk walked away from the talks, as Wakiso Giants demanded €270,000, while the former were only offering €150,000. The talented youngster has one-year remaining on his contract with Wakiso Giants.

“The interest from Waalwijk was concrete and they had reached personal terms with Marvin (Mukiibi). But the two clubs failed to strike a deal because of a difference in valuation from either side, with Wakiso Giants demanding €270,000 against Waalwijk’s €150,000 offer. Obviously, the player is gutted, as he considered it a dream move. But, again, the move to Waalwijk is 100% off,” Namanya exclusively told Footy-Africa.

It’s worth noting that Mukiibi emerged from East African Schools record champions St. Mary’s School, Kitende to join Wakiso Giants, a team he has played for three seasons. Last campaign, he has so far played 18 league matches, assisting on six occasions. Overall since the 2022/23 campaign, he has made 43 appearances, netting five and garnering 14 assists.

Meanwhile, at the international stage, Mukiibi has represented Uganda for the youth-level U17, U20 and U23 teams. He was part of the U20 team, the Hippos that clinched silver at the All-Africa games in Accra, Ghana last year.
