EFL Championship side Coventry City are considering a move to sign Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka on a permanent deal at the end of the season, particularly if they secure promotion to the Premier League.

The Sky Blues are in a strong position to secure promotion to the English top-flight for the first time since the 2000-01 season, needing only a few more points from their last five league games of the season to seal promotion.

Onyeka joined Brentford in 2021 from Midtjylland but struggled to nail down a regular spot in the team, having found himself down in the pecking order at the club. The Super Eagles midfielder sealed a move from the Bees to Coventry during the winter transfer window on a loan deal until the end of the season in search of regular playing time.

Since making the switch to the Championship club earlier in the year, Onyeka has become a mainstay in the Coventry City team, making 10 appearances for them and starting nine of them. He recently scored his first goal in the 3-2 win over Derby Country and has added stability and balance to the midfield since his arrival.

With Premier League football on the horizon, Coventry City will need to strengthen their squad to improve their chances of survival in the top-flight and avoid an immediate return to the second division, leading to an urgency to make Onyekaโ€™s deal permanent.

How much will Frank Onyeka cost Coventry City

According to Transfermarkt, Frank Onyeka has a market value of around โ‚ฌ7 million, ranking him as the 22nd most valuable Nigerian player in the world.

Personal terms on salary and the length of the contract are unlikely to be an issue with Onyeka keen on remaining at the club where he is enjoying consistent playing time.

With his contract at Brentford expiring at the end of the 2026-27 season, the Bees would also be open to selling him for a fee close to his market value in the summer, rather than risk losing him for free when his deal expires.
