Carlos Queiroz is poised to reassemble one of his most trusted coaching alliances, with Roger De Sa edging closer to a role on Ghana’s technical bench as the Black Stars intensify preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Fresh off his appointment as head coach, Queiroz is moving swiftly to shape a backroom team built on familiarity and cohesion. Reports emerging from South Africa suggest discussions between De Sá and the Ghana Football Association have progressed significantly, with an agreement now within reach pending final contractual steps.

The potential reunion would see the seasoned Mozambican-born tactician once again align with Queiroz, continuing a partnership that has stretched across continents and competitions.

Ghana FA considers shake-up as Carlos Queiroz plans new Black Stars staff

Their collaboration has previously taken them to the global stage with Iran national football team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as well as a stint with Qatar national football team.

One of their most notable joint achievements came with Egypt national football team, where they engineered a run to the final of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, ultimately finishing runners-up after a dramatic shootout loss to Senegal national football team.

For Queiroz, the move to bring De Sá into the fold underscores a preference for trusted allies as he looks to build a competitive and stable Ghana side ahead of the expanded 2026 global showpiece, set to be staged across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Beyond the international scene, De Sá carries a wealth of experience from the South African domestic circuit. His résumé includes a notable spell with Orlando Pirates, whom he guided to the final of the 2013 CAF Champions League, further cementing his reputation as a tactician capable of navigating high-stakes competitions.

He has also previously served within the setup of the South Africa national football team and worked alongside Queiroz during his tenure with Portugal national football team, including at the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Although the appointment has yet to be formally confirmed, indications from De Sá suggest that negotiations are in their closing stages, with only minor details left unresolved.

If finalized, the Black Stars will head toward 2026 under the guidance of a well-drilled coaching pair whose long-standing partnership could prove pivotal in restoring Ghana’s stature on football’s biggest stage.
