The Ghana Football Association has announced that newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz is on the verge of arriving in the country ahead of his official unveiling.
According to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, the seasoned Portuguese manager is expected to touch down in the coming days, marking the beginning of his tenure with a formal presentation of his plans for Ghana’s senior national team.
Queiroz, whose managerial résumé spans national teams such as Egypt, Colombia, and Oman, has been entrusted with a short-term mandate to guide Ghana through the qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 73-year-old steps into the role following the departure of Otto Addo, who was dismissed in March after successive friendly losses to Austria and Germany raised concerns about the team’s direction.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Asante Twum emphasized that the unveiling ceremony will serve as a crucial moment for transparency and engagement, allowing both the media and supporters to hear directly from the new coach.
“In the next few days, Carlos Queiroz will arrive in Ghana to be properly unveiled, where he will personally tell us his plans and his expectations, and his ambitions for the team” he said.
“We have only made his statement to us public, but he will be unveiled and made available to the press to answer questions, and then we will make progress from there,” Asante Twum added.
Once formally introduced, Queiroz is expected to quickly shift focus to on-field matters, beginning preparations next month.
Ghana is scheduled to face Mexico in a friendly before wrapping up their pre-tournament build-up against Wales on June 2.
The Black Stars, gearing up for their fifth appearance at the global showpiece, have been placed in Group L. Their campaign will kick off against Panama on June 17, followed by daunting fixtures against England and Croatia.
After disappointing group-stage exits at the 2014 tournament in Brazil and the 2022 edition in Qatar, Ghana now turns to Queiroz for a revival, one that restores belief and delivers a more competitive presence on football’s biggest stage.
