Former Ghana international Godwin Attram speaking exclusively to Footy-Africa has expressed immense pride following the transfer of his former player, Kojo Peprah Oppong, to French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice from Swedish club IFK Norrköping.

Attram, who coached Oppong during his development years in Ghana, described the move as a major step forward in the young defender’s career.

“It’s overwhelming,” Attram said. “In the history of our football development, this is special — to see a player start here in Ghana, go to Sweden, and now land at a Champions League club like Nice. It shows the importance of structure, patience and progression.”

Oppong, 21, joined Nice on a permanent deal reportedly worth between €2–3 million. He becomes the second centre-back signing for the French side this summer, after the arrival of Manchester City’s Juma Bah on loan. With key defenders Moïse Bombito, Youssouf Ndayishimiye and Mohamed Abdelmonem all sidelined, and veteran Dante entering his final season, Oppong’s arrival is seen as key to reinforcing the back line.

For Attram, the defender’s progress is no surprise.

“The foundation was good for the boy in the academy, so he will definitely succeed at the top level,” he said. “It’s always important as a young footballer to progress every two or three years. Peprah is a very intelligent and hardworking player. He listens, he learns, and I have no doubt he will succeed.”

Attram added that he has remained close to Oppong throughout his journey, especially during his transition to Sweden.

“I’ve advised him severally about the demands of this business. I told him that professionalism, humility and focus are key — and he’s followed that path. I’m proud not just as his coach, but as a Ghanaian. He’s made the people here and in Sweden proud. This move is deserved.”

Oppong has already joined up with the Nice squad at their pre-season camp in Austria, with a UEFA Champions League qualifier against SL Benfica scheduled for August 6.
