RB Leipzig have emerged as the latest club monitoring the situation of Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku ahead of the summer transfer window, but sources close to the player have exclusively told Footy-Africa his immediate focus remains the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the Black Stars.

Sources close to the player have confirmed to Footy-Africa that Leipzig are closely tracking Fatawu’s progress following Leicester City’s relegation to England’s third division.

Although no formal contact has been made at this stage, the Bundesliga side are believed to be seriously considering a move for the Ghana international during the summer transfer window.

Five key challenges awaiting for Carlso Queiroz with Ghana at the 2026 World Cup

However, sources close to the player say Fatawu is not rushing into any decision despite the growing speculation surrounding his future.

“The focus now is the World Cup. He wants to concentrate fully on Ghana and will decide his future after the tournament,” the source said.

Fatawu’s future has become one of the major talking points ahead of the transfer window after Leicester’s dramatic fall from the Premier League. Despite being under contract until 2029, it is widely expected the 21-year-old will not remain at the club for a League One campaign.

The winger continues to attract strong interest across Europe following his performances for both club and country over the past two seasons.

Several Premier League clubs, including Fulham, Brentford, Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Everton, are also monitoring the Ghanaian attacker, while Villarreal have also been credited with interest.

Fatawu is currently in Ghana preparing for the World Cup with the Black Stars under new coach Carlos Queiroz.

Five Ghanaian footballers poised for moves during the summer transfer window

The talented winger has already made 27 appearances for Ghana and scored three goals, establishing himself as one of the country’s brightest young talents.

According to Transfermarkt, Fatawu currently has a market value of €24 million.

This is not the first time the Ghanaian has been linked with a move to Germany. A proposed transfer to Bayer Leverkusen in 2021 reportedly collapsed late in negotiations following issues involving meetings between his representatives and other clubs.
