Footy-Africa understands that Chibuike Nwaiwu is unlikely to leave Trabzonspor this summer despite attracting interest from several European clubs.

The Nigerian defender has emerged as one of Trabzonspor’s standout performers in recent months, sparking speculation over a possible move away from Turkey.

Fulham, Bayer Leverkusen and reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain are all believed to be monitoring the 22-year-old following his impressive displays.

Fulham are understood to have sent scouts to watch the former Enyimba defender on multiple occasions and are said to rate him highly.

However, sources close to the situation have indicated there is little chance of Nwaiwu leaving Trabzonspor this summer, having only joined the club in January.

The source added that the player remains happy with his development in Turkey and that transfer speculation does not necessarily indicate formal contact from interested clubs.

Nwaiwu’s latest standout display came in Trabzonspor’s 1-1 draw against Göztepe, where he was named Man of the Match.

The defender produced an impressive all-round defensive performance, recording three tackles while winning 15 of his 19 duels and 10 of 13 aerial contests.

He also contributed two blocked shots, five clearances, two interceptions and three recoveries in another commanding display at the heart of defence.

Trabzonspor manager Fatih Tekke underlined the defender’s importance after the game.

“We would have been finished without him,” Tekke said.

Should Nwaiwu maintain his current level of performance, Trabzonspor may face an increasingly difficult task keeping hold of one of their most influential players.
