South African top-flight side Amazulu FC have opened talks with Ugandan international and experienced midfielder Taddeo Lwanga on a possible move in the ongoing transfer window, Footy-Africa sources have exclusively confirmed.

Lwanga is currently a free agent following the expiry of his contract with East African powerhouse APR FC. The player and APR decided against renewing the contract after the two failed to reach an agreement on a fresh deal.

In an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, Lwanga’s agent at Prosper Sports Agency Denis Namanya, has confirmed the contact from Amazulu, with the latter tabling a three-year contract. They are the latest to make approaches, following initial interest from Ugandan champions Vipers SC.

“We have an approach from Amazulu for Lwanga, as they contacted us on Saturday. The talks will go on throughout the week, and hopefully, a deal can be struck. We have demands, but they also have expectations from our end, but we are positive. He (Lwanga) is calm, and will take up the deal if his desires are met. It’s still early days, so we wait to see how it will all pan out,” Namanya exclusively told Footy-Africa.

Ugandan International Taddeo Lwanga Set for Vipers Return Ahead of CAF Champions League

Lwanga left APR after 37 appearances and as a two-time Rwanda Premier League winner. Previously, the 31-year-old captained former side Vipers to the Uganda Premier League championship in the 2017/18 season. Lwanga has also previously played at Tanzania’s Simba SC, Egypt’s Tanta and Djibouti’s Atar/Solar 7.

Meanwhile, Lwanga is a full Ugandan international, who also played an astounding role in helping Uganda return to Africa Cup of Nations for the 2025 edition after missing out in 2021 and 2023. He was a key figure in the team that reached the Round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 in Egypt. In the national colours, he made 26 competitive caps.
