Super Eagles defender Benjamin Tanimu in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa has talked about the decision to part ways with Moroccan side Maghreb de Fès by mutual consent following a difficult spell at the club.
“Despite everything, I cannot say anything bad about the club. It was purely a sporting decision from my side, but I did enjoy my stay in Morocco,” he exclusively told Footy-Africa. “The issue was that I was not getting the minutes I was promised when I moved here, so I felt I needed a new challenge to start afresh and show what I can do.”
“I needed to leave and focus on somewhere else, especially with the transfer window around the corner. I have had some offers come in for me, but we are carefully looking at all of them. I have to settle down and choose wisely so I do not make the same mistakes again,” the defender added.
The defender had reportedly been at loggerheads with the club’s hierarchy and, after a series of meetings and deliberations, both parties agreed to terminate his contract ahead of the summer transfer window.
Tanimu, 23, joined the Moroccan outfit from English side Crawley Town F.C. and was tipped for great things upon his arrival. However, his time at the club proved challenging as he struggled to establish himself in the team.
The former Bendel Insurance captain made only two appearances for Maghreb Fès since joining the club in July 2025 amid much fanfare. Despite impressing in training sessions, he found it difficult to break into the starting lineup and eventually decided that a fresh start elsewhere would be the best option for his career.
Tanimu, who has three caps for Nigeria national football team, will now hope to get his career back on track and work his way back into the Super Eagles setup.
