Douglas Owusu is aware of growing interest from Czech side Viktoria Plzeň, but the Ghanaian midfielder has left his future entirely in the hands of Red Star Belgrade as discussions continue over a possible summer transfer, Footy-Africa can exclusively confirm.

The 20-year-old only joined Red Star from Radnik Surdulica in January in a €2.2 million move after attracting strong interest from several clubs across Europe.

However, just months after arriving in Belgrade, Viktoria Plzen are pushing hard to sign the midfielder and are understood to have submitted a package worth around €4.3 million, including bonuses.

Despite the growing speculation, sources close to the player insist Owusu remains fully focused on improving his performances and returning to his best form after a challenging start to life at Red Star.

A source close to the player’s representatives told Footy-Africa that Owusu is aware of the interest but is not trying to force a move away from the Serbian champions.

“Douglas knows about the interest and appreciates it, but he has left everything to the club,” the source said.

“He is focused on working hard, improving and getting back to his best level. Red Star are not under pressure to sell him, and the final decision will come from the club.”

The source added that Viktoria Plzen remain determined to complete the transfer after previously missing out on the Ghanaian earlier this year.

Viktoria Plzen lost out in €2.7m battle for Red Star Belgrade’s Douglas Owusu

Owusu made 13 appearances during the second half of the season for Red Star, scoring two goals and registering one assist.

Before joining the Serbian giants, he had established himself as one of the standout young attacking players in Serbia after scoring seven goals for Radnik Surdulica in the first half of the campaign.

If the transfer goes through, Red Star would make a significant profit only months after signing the midfielder, while Radnik would also benefit from a 15 percent sell-on clause included in the original agreement.
